Colloquium : The Photographic Becoming of the Image
Moderated by Marie Fraser and Vincent Lavoie
Free of charge
This colloquium proposes to examine the transformations currently occurring in the field of the image and which force us to reconsider photography from the point of view of an expansion of digital and technological developments. Bringing together various specialists in the image, artists, museum directors, curators, event organizers, photography and new media theorists, this colloquium will be an opportunity to consider the effects of digital technology on our conceptualization of the image and the role of photography. More and more, these transformations compel us to reconsider the modes of exhibitions and dissemination of photography.
Organized within the framework of the Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal 2007, whose theme examines the narrativity of the image (Explorations narratives / Replaying Narrative), this colloquium also aims to contextualize the broadening of the narrative and temporal possibilities of the image to which we witness today. This broadening is without precedent in the history of the image and arises mainly from the new possibilities offered by the digital technology.
