GEMMIFORM (Québec, Canada)
Deliquesce

The burgeoning structure of the gemma, which is at work, notably, in the growth of mushrooms, lends its name to the audiovisual collective Gemmiform. This structure attests to the energy secretly at work in all matter, including human matter. In the immersive work Deliquesce (2010–2011), the continuous miracle of the origin of the world is suggested by the video, which generates macroscopic and cosmic illusions. The music, meanwhile, awakens nostalgia for the dark time when the world was only potentialities, a desire to return to the beginning, for which deliquescence is the perfect image. Gemmiform is a collective of variable size, formed for this occasion of Nancy Belzile (video, animation, film), Stephen Beaupré (electronic music), and Jacques-Philippe Lemieux-Leblanc, alias The Banjo ConsorSium (acoustic music).

This project benefited from the financial assistance from Support for emerging practices program of the Conseil des arts de Montréal

Gemmiform has been founded in 2008 in Montreal. It is an audiovisual collective whose size varies. Its core is composed of Nancy Belzile (video, animation, film) and Stephen Beaupré (electronic music). As needed, they call upon musician Jacques-Philippe Lemieux-Leblanc (The Banjo ConsorSium), artist Patrick Bernatchez (drawing, painting, film), and David Fafard (digital processing of live performances). The collective’s main concern is to bring forward contemplation, poetry, and the organic side of things in a world that is ever more rapid, efficient, and digital. Gemmiform first performed its works as part of the Mutek electronic music festival in Montreal (2010) and at the Chicago Cultural Center (2011).
