2003 - Now. Images of Present Time

The publication NOW. Images of Present Time, edited by 2003 Guest Curator Vincent Lavoie, is much more than a catalogue of exhibitions; rather, it is an autonomous and authoritative work which assembles ten or so contributors issuing from diverse professional and theoretical perspectives (psychoanalysis, media studies, philosophy, political sciences, etc.): Ariella Azoulay, Guy Bellavance, Anne Bénichou, Albert Boime, Malcolm Foley and J. John Lennon, Robert Graham, Edgar Roskis, John Taylor. Previously unpublished analyses and essays treating such matters as the rituals of the media, the monumentalization of press imagery, the artistic interpretation of the catastrophic, the manner in which the impact of an event will colour the reception of its depiction, the rejection of the event, compassion fatigue, the privileges of the spectator/witness, etc., figure prominently in this bilingual and richly illustrated publication.

In February of 2004, NOW. Images of Present Time won the Grand Prix Award for books in the prestigious Grafika design contest.
